Volvik Staffer Maurice Allen Wins 2nd Consecutive LDET Title
Volvik Staff Player Maurice Allen Wins 2nd Consecutive European Long Drive Title
Professional Long Drive Athlete and Volvik Staffer Maurice Allen won his 2nd straight Long Drive European Tour Championship at the end of November, beating rival Emil Rosberg by 400 points in the final LDET rankings. He is the first back-to-back LDET Champion in its history.
His longest drive of the year was a staggering 438 yards, a feat he duplicated in LDET play this season, once with an Orange Volvik Vista iV golf ball and the other with a Pink Volvik Vista iV golf ball. 438 yards is the 2ndlongest drive in LDET history.
Allen finished with three long drive victories at the Amsterdam Championship (376 yards and 367 yards in Final), the Czech Republic Championship (376 yards and 368 yards in Final) and the Slovenia Championship (365 yards and 369 yards in Final). He also had two runner-up finishes at the Italian Championship and Portugal Championship.
Allen capped off the win on the LEDT with a win in New Zealand at the International Long Drivers Invitational. Allen qualified to the top 4 with a ball of 376 yards, qualified to the final with a ball of 379 yards and won the final in 2 straight sets with the longest ball of the day of 393 yards vs. Roseberg. It was Allen’s 4th title of the year in Long Drive events across the globe.
This impressive 2016 season follows a productive 2015 season in which, Allen finished 1st in the LDET final standings by 1600 points. He finished with three victories at the Sweden LDET Championship, the Belgium LDET Championship and the Italy LDET Championship, giving Allen seven long drive titles in two years.
The LDET has been sponsored by Volvik the past three years. At every event, different color Volvik Vista iV golf balls are used by the long drivers in order to increase overall visibility for the competitors, spectators and judges alike.
Volvik is also the official golf ball of World Long Drive, which aired primetime on Golf Channel October 11-12.
Volvik’s Pink and Orange Vista iV golf balls were used in drives measuring more than 400 yards in the Open Division finals, far surpassing the average distances measured in previous year’s finals.
England’s Joe Miller won his second overall championship against Ryan Steenberg in the finals with a 423-yard drive using a Pink Vista iV golf ball. Miller hit a 439-yard drive in the semifinals. That’s a quarter of a mile with a Pink golf ball!
The 95-compression Vista iV now being used in competition at Long Drive events is known for being a perfect ball for faster swing speeds and when hitting into the wind. The Zirconium cover on the Vista iV is more durable than Urethane and allows for a greater transfer of energy to provide longer flight time. Another instrumental component of the Vista iV is that it is the only known 4-piece golf ball in the world manufactured in the full spectrum of color (Green, Orange, Pink, Yellow, and White).
