Volvik Starts LPGA Tour Season with Two Top 5 Finishes at Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic
Volvik staff players Pornanong Phatlum and Ilhee Lee both finished in 5th place at the season-opening Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic Sunday using Volvik S3 golf balls. The Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic kicked off the 2016 season for the LPGA Tour, giving Volvik one of their best starts to an LPGA Tour season.
Both players shot a 15-below-par 277 and earned $47,939 for their Top 5 finishes.
Thailand’s Phatlum tied the course record Sunday, shooting a 65 with her signature Pink Volvik golf ball. Lee won the inaugural Pure Silk event in the Bahamas in 2013 with a Yellow golf ball to provide Volvik with their first-ever LPGA Tour victory. Volvik now has earned an LPGA Tour victory in each of the past three LPGA Tour seasons.
Six of the seven players that put Volvik golf balls in play in the Bahamas made the cut.
“During the same week in which we experienced our best PGA Merchandise Show ever due to our amazing new 2016 product lineup, we had two of our staff players all over the leader board and the TV coverage in the Bahamas,” said National Director of Sales and Marketing for Volvik USA Jon Claffey. “This has been an amazing start to 2016 for Volvik all the way around.”
The LPGA Tour now moves to the second annual Coates Golf Championship this week at Golden Ocala Golf and Equestrian Club in Ocala, Fla. Seven Volvik staff players playing four different color golf balls are expected to compete this week at the event. Three more players using Volvik golf balls are attempting to Monday qualify into the event. Every player is currently playing Volvik’s S3 golf ball, which is now available in Orange as well as the original White/Blue Pearl finish.
The event has a Wednesday start and a Saturday finish due to Super Bowl 50.
In 2015, over 10 LPGA Tour players played different color Volvik golf balls to one victory, 10 Top 5's, 18 Top 10's and 41 Top 25's after 31 events. Volvik’s presence as one of the most used golf balls on the LPGA Tour (as high as #2 in certain events) continue to lead the fast-growing brand to increased on-air visibility with their bright color golf balls. More than 17.2 million viewers tuned in to the LPGA Tour on Golf Channel and NBC in 2014 and those numbers grew even higher in 2015.
“The key factor to our growth has been the legitimacy provided by winning at the highest level with different color golf balls,” said Claffey. “When people see something new that’s never been done before, they instinctively want to check it out. We continue to do something that’s never been done before and to open up golfer’s eyes about the myriad of benefits one can gain by playing a high-performance color golf ball.”
Volvik finished the 2015 season with four staff players in Top 40 on the final official 2015 money list playing three different color golf balls: #20 Chella Choi (Orange), #22 Mi Hyang Lee (Orange), #24 Ilhee Lee (Yellow) and #38 Pornanong Phatlum (Pink).
