Seeing Orange at the U.S. Women's Open!
Chella Choi Sets New U.S. Women’s Open Scoring Record,
Two Orange Volvik Golf Balls in Top 20 at U.S. Women’s Open
This week at the U.S. Women’s Open was all about the color Orange. Two Volvik staff players finished in the Top 20 with an Orange S3 golf ball at the LPGA Major Championship and one of those players set a new U.S. Women’s Open scoring record in the process.
Volvik staff player Chella Choi set a new nine-hole scoring record for the U.S. Women’s Open Saturday at Lancaster Country Club by shooting a 29 on the front nine.
Later in the round, she came a fraction of an inch from tying the 18-hole scoring record when she lipped out a 3-foot putt for par at the 18th hole, a putt that would have secured a record-tying score of 63.
Afterward, Choi said she didn’t know she was putting for a 63 to tie a U.S. Women’s Open record.
“I didn't know that,” said Choi. “But now, it's so exciting, so close. My best score in a major.”
Choi’s 64 vaulted her up the leaderboard and put her into contention for the final round. She made nine birdies and three bogeys and hit 13 of 14 fairways and took 26 putts in her record-setting round.
Choi finished T20th at the U.S. Women’s Open with her signature Orange Volvik S3 golf ball. She says it’s her lucky color and she had friends and family wearing Orange in the gallery to show their support.
Cho currently ranks 32nd in the LPGA’s Race to the CME Globe, the season-long points competition that will pay out the player who has accumulated the most points with a $1 million payout, the largest in all of women’s golf. Choi finished 8th on the LPGA Tour in 2014.
Volvik staffer Mi Hyang Lee finished T14th at the U.S. Women’s Open, also playing an Orange S3 golf ball. Lee currently ranks 30th in the Race to the CME Globe. She had a breakout year in 2014, winning for the first time on the LPGA Tour at the Mizuno Classic. She was the first player to ever win on the LPGA Tour with an Orange golf ball.
Four Volvik staffers playing three different colors (Orange, Pink and Yellow) currently rank in the Top 32 of the Race to the CME Globe.
