Volvik Championship To Be Held in California in 2014

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA, December 11, 2013 – The Symetra Tour and Volvik announced today that next year’s Volvik Championship will move to the prestigious Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort in the City Of Industry, Calif.

Home to the 2011 Kia Classic on the LPGA Tour, Industry Hills Golf Club will provide the perfect test for the120-player field which is set to compete at the new venue, February 24 through March 2, 2014. The second-annual event will feature a total purse of $100,000 with a $15,000 first-place prize.

“We are proud to once again partner with Volvik in showcasing the next generation of LPGA stars at the Volvik Championship,” said Mike Nichols, Chief Business Officer of the Symetra Tour. “Additionally, returning to Industry Hills where the LPGA once played in front of large crowds is sure to create  an exciting week of golf for sponsors and fans.”

The move to California takes the tournament from a late September date to playing it as the second event on the Symetra Tour schedule following the season-opening VisitMesa.com Gateway Classic at Longbow Golf Club in Arizona. In 2013, California native Hannah Yun earned her first professional victory at the inaugural Volvik Championship by two strokes over Canadian Alena Sharp.

“We are very excited and proud to support the LPGA Symetra Tour and to partner with Volvik in hosting the 2014 Volvik Championship at Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms Resort” said John Semcken, Principal.

In addition to being the title sponsor of the Volvik Championship, Volvik is the official golf ball of the Symetra Tour, providing range balls at every event on the tournament schedule.  Volvik is the title sponsor of the Volvik Race for the Card, a season-long race which awards LPGA Tour status for the following season to the top 10 players on the season-ending money list.

In the last two seasons, over 30 Symetra Tour players used Volvik golf balls in tournament play, leading the golf ball manufacturer to three LPGA Tour cards, four victories, more than 20 top 10 finishes and 40 top 25 finishes.

"The inaugural Volvik Championship in Orlando, FL was a huge success and the feedback we received was that it raised the bar and brought an LPGA Tour tournament feel to the Symetra Tour," said Don Shin, President of Volvik USA . "Volvik USA launched at the PGA show 2013 and we currently have close to 1,000 accounts that carry Volvik golf balls. We are very excited to have the partnership with Symetra Tour and to be supporting these players following their dreams of being professional golfers with our ultra-high-performance colored golf balls."

"We look forward to raising the bar even higher this year at Pacific Palms Resort. California is our biggest market and we have a lot of support for our brand on the West Coast. We will work our hardest to make sure the Volvik Championship will be the favorite Symetra Tour event of the year by the players, our retailers as well as our potential customers."

The 2014 season will mark the third year in the Tour’s 34-year history that the top 10 Symetra Tour players on the season-ending Volvik Race for the Card standings will earn fully-exempt LPGA Tour status for the following year.
