Volvik Ends 2015 LPGA Tour with 4 Players, 3 Colors in Top 40
Volvik Finishes 2015 LPGA Tour with 4 Players, 3 Different Colors in Top 40
With the completion of the 2015 LPGA Tour season at the CME Group Tour Championship Nov. 22, Volvik golf balls have again proven to the golf world that they not only belong, but that they are a major player on the fastest growing professional tours in golf and perhaps all of sports.
In the last three LPGA Tour seasons, professionals playing Volvik golf balls have earned three victories, 35 Top 5 finishes, 74 Top 10 finishes and 166 Top 25 finishes, all with different color, high-performance golf balls.
The three victories, one in each of the last three seasons, have come at the 2013 Pure Silk Bahamas Classic with a Yellow golf ball, the 2014 Mizuno Classic with an Orange golf ball and the 2015 Marathon Classic with an Orange golf ball. These are the only two victories in LPGA Tour history with an Orange golf ball and one of very few with a Yellow ball.
In 2015, over 10 LPGA Tour players played different color Volvik golf balls to one victory, 10 Top 5's, 18 Top 10's and 41 Top 25's after 31 events. Volvik’s presence as one of the most used golf balls on the LPGA Tour (as high as #2 in certain events) continue to lead the fast-growing brand to increased on-air visibility with their bright color golf balls. More than 17.2 million viewers tuned in to the LPGA Tour on Golf Channel and NBC in 2014 and those numbers grew even higher in 2015.
“The key factor to our growth has been the legitimacy provided by winning at the highest level with different color golf balls,” said Volvik USA National Director of Sales and Marketing Jon Claffey. “When people see something new that’s never been done before, they instinctively want to check it out. We continue to do something that’s never been done before and to open up golfer’s eyes about the myriad of benefits one can gain by playing a high-performance color golf ball.”
Volvik finished the 2015 season with four staff players in Top 40 on the final official 2015 money list playing three different color golf balls: #20 Chella Choi (Orange), #22 Mi Hyang Lee (Orange), #24 Ilhee Lee (Yellow) and #38 Pornaonong Phatlum (Pink).
#20 Chella Choi – Rolex World Ranking 35
Choi earned $663,576 in 2015 with four Top 10 finishes this season, including her first career win at the Marathon Classic. After seven years and 157 LPGA Tour events, Choi fulfilled her lifelong dream when she won her first LPGA Tour victory near Toledo, Ohio. The 24-year-old Choi held off the #1 ranked player in the world and defending Marathon Classic champion to win the event in a 1-hole playoff with her signature Orange Volvik S3 golf ball.
Choi has been one of the most consistent professionals on the LPGA Tour over the last few years. In 2014, she finished 8th in the final LPGA Tour money list rankings. Before the victory, she had collected three runner-up finishes and had been within two strokes of the leader in the final round seven times without securing a win.
Choi also had a pair of Top 5 finishes in 2015. She ranked 3rd on the LPGA Tour in driving accuracy with 81.7%, an increase of 7% over her 2012 accuracy numbers. The S3 golf ball has tested as the straightest tour premium golf ball on the market due to its extremely low diver spin that reduces side spin on miss-hits.
#22 Mi Hyang Lee - Rolex World Ranking 41
Lee had four Top 10’s and earned a total of $647,865 in 2015. She ranked 9th in Greens in Regulation on the 2015 tour with 73.3% and also ranked 8th in total birdies on the tour this year with 366.
At the age of 23, Lee was a first time LPGA Tour winner last year at the Mizuno Classic with her signature Orange S3 golf ball. Her victory with an Orange golf ball was the first ever in the history of the LPGA Tour.
#24 Ilhee Lee - Rolex World Ranking 35
Lee had a career year in her 6th season as a pro, earning a career high $619,647. Lee earned an amazing eight Top 10’s and three Top 5 finishes in 2015 with her Yellow Vista iS golf ball. The Vista iS is known to be the best greenside spin inducing golf ball and Lee proved that with her stats, finishing 10th on the LPGA Tour in sand saves and 25th in putting average. She also finished 13th in driving accuracy with 78.5%.
#38 Pornanong Phatlum - Rolex World Ranking 41
Phatlum earned a healthy $445,383 this season with her Pink S3 tour-quality golf ball. She again showed off the accuracy of the S3 by finishing 11th in driving accuracy with 78.9%. She had a runner-up finish this season at the Cambia Portland Classic and T3 finish at the JTBC Founders Cup.
“Continued success on the LPGA Tour with different color golf balls has really driven our brand to new heights,” said Claffey. “Orange has been our best seller across the board since we started Volvik USA and we suspect it’s because we are the only ones putting a focus on an Orange tour quality ball that can rival the performance of the other white golf balls the competition has out there. What’s great about the LPGA Tour is that is more relatable to the golfing masses in terms of swing speed and compression. People know just how good these LPGA Tour players are and that they would only use a ball that is best for their game. That’s why men and women alike are flocking to try out the benefits of a Volvik color golf ball.”
