2 More $500 Winners in DS-77 Hole-in-One Challenge, Priceless Video

Volvik Announces 12th and 13th $500 Winners in DS-77 Hole-in-One Challenge, Priceless Reaction to Hole-in-One Captured in Video

Volvik announces two more $500 hole-in-ones were made with their DS-77 golf ball in the Volvik DS-77 Hole-in-One Challenge.

DS-77 Challenge Hole-in-One #12 went to Dave Humphreys of Minot, North Dakota on March 11th when he holed out an Orange DS-77 with a 8-iron from 170 yards at Dobson Ranch Golf Course in Mesa, Arizona.

Priceless video of Humphreys’ reaction to the hole-in-one and winning $500 is available to view here: https://youtu.be/h9tfLeVmrT0

“On the first hole I ever used the Volvik DS-77, I got a double eagle,” said Humphreys. “At the turn, I bought five more dozens.  I range from being a 14-16 handicap. The day of the hole-in-one, I was playing with a couple really good golfers at Dobson Ranch in Arizona. When it hit the green, one of the guys said ‘I think he likes it’, but there was sand trap in front of green and we didn’t know for sure.  I thought I saw the ball against the pin, but a second later we couldn’t see it and we all knew it went in. I immediately called one my good golfing buddies and told him I just won $500 with the golf balls I had bought.”

The hole-on-one was the first ever for Humphreys.

The 13th hole-in-one of the national contest happened March 21 when Janet Abrams holed out her Yellow DS-77 with a 5-wood from 147 yards on hole #6 of the Callawasie Island Magnolia course in Okatie, South Carolina.

“I was playing with 2 other girls,” said Abrams. “One thought it came up short and I can’t see that far anymore. When we got up to green, we couldn’t find the third ball, my ball, and the other playing partner came up and said ‘what about this ball in the hole?’ It was my 4th hole-in-one, my third at Callawasie, but I haven’t had one in 10 years. Volvik gave me a sample of the ball at the PGA Show and I’ve been carrying it around and using it strictly for Par 3’s. I really like the way the ball feels, I get all the distance that I need.”

Abrams is the third female winner of the DS-77 Hole-in-One Challenge.

All 13 hole-in-ones have been confirmed through the rules of the contest as all golfers had pre-registered at www.volvik.com/hole-in-one and each filled out the proper paper work naming their witness and providing proof that they played golf that day. Each hole was beyond the 95-yard requirement and occurred in regular stroke play. The Volvik DS-77 Hole-in-One Challenge began September 15, 2014 and goes until June 30, 2015. To read the full rules of the contest, please visit www.volvik.com/hole-in-one.

"To our knowledge this is the first time a manufacturer has rolled out a contest that rewards the golfer for making a hole-in-one with their equipment," said Jon Claffey, National Director of Sales and Marketing for Volvik USA. "The idea came to us after we saw the how many hole-in-one reports we were seeing with Volvik golf balls. We were getting two or three reports of hole-in-ones being made with Volvik golf balls almost every week. We realized we have the perfect hole-in-one ball with the DS-77 and we wanted to reward all the golfers making a hole-in-one with our product."

The DS-77 is Volvik's new extreme distance ball that is designed to perform with more spin on the ball around the greens. The DS in the name stands for Dual Spin as the ball is made to be long off the tee with reduced sidespin with more spin on the greens, making it the perfect hole-in-one ball. It is available in Yellow, Orange and White and retails for $22.99 a dozen. There is no purchase necessary of the DS-77, but it must be the ball in play for the hole-in-one. The contest is not valid in Rhode Island or New York.

"Golfers get multiple chances to win as every time they play they will have four shots at it so the odds are much greater than the usual one-shot hole-in-one events,” said Claffey. "This is a really great performing golf ball that has tested with 10% more greenside spin compared to the other leading soft compression balls on the market. People will have a lot of fun with this ball."
